[HOWTO] Counters & Timecodes in AfterEffects
May 29th, 2012 by Dan Meyer
A few people have asked how to insert a timecode or a counter in their math videos. This technique constitutes, like, 90% of my AfterEffects usage, so I put together a quick tutorial.

It’s not possible to do this in final cut pro right?
I’d wager you could hack something together in FCP. I know it supports timecodes. (I forget if they do base 100 or not.) The counters are going to be really painful, though.
Oh man, I needed this a few days ago when I was teaching myself how to make transparent timers and counters in After Effects and utilizing them in Premiere Pro! Now it’s time to shoot some 60fps video and get to playing over the summer. Love the work Dan, especially the tutorials.
[...] huge fan learning more about how pros do their jobs. I love watching Dan Meyer show how you can add timecodes in AfterEffects (even though I don’t have the funds for a copy of this software). I love reading about a pro [...]
I need to get my hands on AfterEffects! IMovie just isn’t cutting it anymore. What software do you use to screen capture?
Hi Matt, that’d be Screenflow.
